Performance Standards, Verification and Compliance

Performance Standard Rationalisation

A performance standard is a statement, which can be expressed in qualitative or quantitative terms, of the performance required by either:-

  • a system
  • an item of equipment
  • a person
  • a procedure

and which is used as the basis for managing a hazard – eg  planning, measuring, control or audit - through the life cycle of the installation.

PI Asset Integrity Ltd can ensure that Offshore Installations and Wells (Design and Construction, etc) Regulations 1996 (DCR) and Offshore Installations  (Prevention of Fire and Explosion, and Emergency Response 1995 (PFEER) assurance activities are appropriate for the present operating context of the installation by establishing:-

Clear association between Major Accident Hazards (MAH) and Safety Critical Elements (SCE’s).
Performance Standards with Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic and Time constrained (SMART) criteria.
Visible alignment between Performance Standards and Assurance tasks implemented through Maintenance Strategies.
Pre-defined Failure Responses become integral part of the Performance Standard. This process gives the ability to see, at any time, the integrity status of each safety critical element, thereby demonstrating compliance with the Case for Safety.
